Pem Dorjee Sherpa shares his incredible story of survival from his childhood in Nepal to summiting Everest twice and immigrating to the U.S. Surmounting life challenges far more difficult than summiting Everest, he drew upon his personal strengths, the power of the human mind, and positivity to create a better life for himself, his family and the people of Nepal. Pem Dorjee Sherpa, a native of Nepal over came extreme challenges to become an Everest guide and a businessman who immigrated to the US to raise his family. Born in the small, remote village of Chyangba, Solukhumbu, he has summited Mt. Everest twice, the second time with his then girlfriend Moni Mulepati. Learn more at

Mount Everest guide brings Himalayan flavor to Ann Arbor food scene

The couple, who also co-own the Himalayan Bazaar downtown, took over the former Lotus Thai in Oak Valley Centre in mid-July and worked quickly to get it open by early September. Sherpa took on two Nepali-born chefs from popular Indian restaurant Cardamom to help him serve a combination of Nepali, Tibetan, and Indian staples--including quite a few crossover dishes among the three cuisines.
